About Us
Hill County Printing - a Pillar of Havre's Community since 1963.
Established in 1963 by Clyde and Evie Floren, Hill County Printing has proudly served Havre's printing needs for almost sixty years.
Clyde Floren purchased the equipment and hired the print staff from the Havre Daily News, located in the basement beneath their building. (Currently occupied by Shamrock's Bar and Casino). They then disassembled the presses and moved them to their new home at 524 First Street, where they've operated ever since.
Back then, Hill County Printing's main press was a Linotype variant, a complicated style of press which used melted blocks of lead to form letters, images and punctuation. Projects that can be completed in a few hours by one person, (thanks to computers and digital printers), would take a staff of eight more than half a day on the original presses.
Hill County Printing transitioned from the Linotype presses to computers in the latter part of the 1970's. As the Personal Computer evolved, the production process improved from cutting and pasting artwork to importing and creating it directly in a digital medium.
"It got a little bit harder towards the end, so thank God Stacy came in and wanted the place, and we thought, well, it's about time, it's time to turn it over to new thoughts."
- Robert Floren
In 1991, Robert and Raymond Floren purchased the business from their parents, Renamed it to "Floren's Hill County Printing" and further modernized it. They served Havre and its surrounding area for thirty years, building a reputation for professional work and great prices.
Robert sold the business to Stacy and Bob Mantle on April 1, 2021, who restored the company to its original title - "Hill County Printing." Robert noted that, "It got a little bit harder towards the end, so thank God Stacy came in and wanted the place, and we thought, well, it's about time, it's time to turn it over to new thoughts."
Since purchasing the business, the Mantles have remodeled and refit the building with cutting edge technology and industry standard computer software. Though modernized to meet the needs of the ever-evolving media landscape, Hill County Printing will never forget its roots as a pillar of the community.
"I can still be active in the community and we can, hopefully down the road, give back even more than we've done before. With our kids involved with sports, clubs and all that, we can do our part now and help just like the Florens did. They were really great about donating things and helping out groups, and I'd like to follow in their footsteps."
